What are the advantages of this mixed substrate over regular Coco or Hydro substrates?
The mixture of coconut fibre and perlite combines the best of two substrates. The coconut is completely rinsed and buffered, which results in a forgiving substrate that will balance out problems with the pH value. The perlite makes the substrate more airy and gives it improved drainage. Seperate coconut or perlite substrates would not combine these qualities.

Should I use Cocos A&B or Hydro A&B with Cocos Perlite 70/30?
Plagron Cocos Perlite 70/30 is part of the COCO grow style. This means we advise the use of Cocos A&B as your base nutrient. Hydro A&B will work, but it’s not our recommendation.

With Plagron Cocos Perlite 70/30, you are growing on a substrate that contains 70% coconut and 30% perlite. This means that you also benefit from the qualities of these two raw materials. With the fully buffered coconut, you are sure of a coconut substrate that meets the highest quality standards, with a stable pH and a low initial EC value. The perlite also ensures rapid drainage and more oxygen. This in turn is beneficial to root development.

Thanks to the perlite in Plagron Cocos Perlite 70/30, water is drained off quickly. This gives the substrate better oxygen balance and prevents rotting. This allows roots to develop even better and create a good basis for the transport of water and nutrients.

The coco in Plagron Cocos Perlite 70/30 is fully buffered with a stable pH value. Unique about the Plagron coconut substrates, is that they are more buffered than comparable products. Unwanted salts are flushed out during several buffering steps. This guarantees that the nutrients in, for example, Cocos A & B can be absorbed under optimum conditions.

Because the coconut in Plagron Cocos Perlite 70/30 is fully flushed and buffered, a low EC value is guaranteed. Therefore, it is a given that you are growing with a coconut substrate that is clean and pure. All unwanted salts have been flushed out during several buffering steps. This prevents your plant from having problems absorbing nutrients during growth and flowering. When you give your plant Cocos A & B in the right dosage, it can be absorbed by the plant properly. Because of the low initial EC-value a calcium deficiency is prevented. For the correct dosage download our standard 100% COCO growing schedule.

The high quality of the Plagron coconut substrates is confirmed by the RHP quality mark. The RHP quality mark guarantees the correct quality requirements and sustainable origin of the substrate. For example, Plagron Cocos Perlite 70/30 holds water optimally and is free of sand, weeds and pathogens. This means that Plagron coconut substrates are clean and pure, and you can use them safely without risk to your grow.

THE IMPORTANCE OF WASHED AND BUFFERED COCO COIR

Coco coir, extracted from the husk of coconuts, is a popular substrate for cultivation due to its excellent water retention, airiness and sustainability. However, it’s not without its challenges.

Coco coir naturally contains sodium and potassium salts, which can potentially harm plants by causing nutrient imbalances or toxicity. That’s where washing comes in โ€“ to flush out these excessive harmful salts.

But merely washing isn’t enough. Coco coir is also naturally high in negatively charged ions, which can bind with positively charged ions such as calcium and magnesium (vital nutrients for plants). The result? A nutrient lockout, preventing your precious plants from absorbing these essential elements. This is where buffering comes in โ€“ a process of pre-treating coco coir with a calcium solution to avoid this nutrient lockout. Unique about all Plagron coconut substrates, is that they are more buffered than comparable products on the market.

HIGHEST QUALITY COCO (RHP CERTIFIED)

The high quality of the Plagron coconut substrates is confirmed by the RHP quality mark. The RHP quality mark guarantees the correct quality requirements and sustainable origin of the substrate.

Cocos Premium has excellent water retention and is free of sand, weeds and pathogens. This means that Plagron coconut substrates are clean and pure, and you can use them safely without risk to your grow.
